XDM 2000 - Two Metres of Metal Additive Manufacturing

The XDM 2000 brings a new order of magnitude to metal powder-bed fusion: a two-metre square build plate with a 650 mm build height, served by six 500 W fibre lasers. It is a machine for organisations whose components simply cannot be produced on any smaller platform - large structural frames, panels, mould bases, energy hardware and one-off industrial components that would otherwise require forgings, castings and extensive machining.

Building at this scale requires an integrated approach to thermal management, powder distribution and optical calibration. The XDM 2000 combines a thermally controlled build chamber, a continuous powder delivery system and a calibrated six-laser optical architecture under a single control platform, with the same XDM IntelliProc® data preparation environment used across the family.

Key Features

Why the XDM 2000 performs

Design decisions that matter in daily production: optical quality, gas flow, powder handling, software openness and serviceability.

  • 2000 mm × 2000 mm × 650 mm build envelope
  • Six 500 W IPG fibre lasers running in parallel
  • Continuous top feeding and external powder ports
  • Integrated thermal and mechanical stability management
  • Full XDM software stack with open parameters
  • Built for aerospace, energy and large tooling programmes

Detailed product description

What changes at two metres

  • At this size, a build can occupy a production hall rather than a workshop corner. The machine therefore includes a service platform, thermal control of the chamber and base plate, and diagnostic tooling that allows engineers to verify laser alignment and plate flatness in place. Powder is delivered, recovered and sieved in a closed circuit to keep consumption predictable on very large jobs.

Six-laser coordination

  • Six independently calibrated laser fields cover the two-metre plate. Job preparation software divides the build area, assigns parts or regions to lasers and manages overlap zones so that seams are not systematically located in critical sections. Build time for a full plate is reduced by close to a factor of six compared with a single-laser system of the same area.

Applications

  • Large aerospace frames, stringers and integration panels.
  • Tooling bases and mould carriers for the automotive and appliance industries.
  • Energy sector components such as large valve bodies, impellers and heat exchangers.
  • Research and defence programmes requiring single-piece, heavily topology-optimised structures.

Engineering partnership

  • The XDM 2000 is typically delivered as part of a joint engineering programme. Our team works with the customer on design for additive manufacturing, support strategy, post-processing and inspection planning, so that the first build on the machine is a validated part rather than an experiment.
