XDM 300 - Scale From One to Four Lasers

The XDM 300 is the productivity step in the XDM portfolio. It keeps the proven 20 µm process capability and the open XDM software environment, but enlarges the build plate to 300 × 300 mm and raises the build height to 410 mm. More importantly, it can be ordered with one, two or four 500 W IPG fibre lasers, so a user can start with a single-laser machine and scale throughput without changing the process window, the material qualification or the downstream workflow.

Multi-laser operation is coordinated by the XDM IntelliMake® control platform, which divides the build area into laser fields, manages overlap zones and keeps the melt pool conditions consistent where the fields meet. This makes the XDM 300 suitable both for high-mix job shops and for series production of components with a recurring annual volume.

Key Features

Why the XDM 300 performs

Design decisions that matter in daily production: optical quality, gas flow, powder handling, software openness and serviceability.

  • Single, dual and quad-laser configurations on one platform
  • 300 mm × 300 mm × 410 mm build volume for taller parts
  • Bottom powder feeding for stable, repeatable layer quality
  • Fully open process parameters in XDM IntelliProc®
  • Intelligent monitoring and recording for automatic operation
  • Premium optical and mechanical components for reliability

Detailed product description

Throughput without process compromise

  • In the quad-laser configuration, four 500 W lasers work simultaneously across the plate, dramatically reducing the time needed to complete a full 300 × 300 mm layer while keeping the same layer thickness and energy density per scan track. For users running large batches of identical parts nested across the plate, this converts directly into lower cost per part and a shorter order-to-delivery cycle.

Consistent quality across laser fields

  • Calibration routines align the optical fields of all lasers to a common coordinate system, and overlap strategies distribute the seam region so that no single track is repeatedly exposed to a different thermal history. Together with in-process monitoring and layer image recording, this delivers isotropic properties across the whole build plate - a prerequisite for certification in aerospace and medical supply chains.

Typical parts

  • Aluminium and titanium brackets and housings for automotive and aerospace programmes.
  • Mould inserts and die-casting cores with conformal cooling for the tooling industry.
  • Nickel-based combustor and turbine components with thin walls and internal cooling passages.
  • Stainless steel and cobalt-chrome medical instruments, implants and surgical guides.
  • Copper-alloy induction coils, heat sinks and electrical connectors.

Designed for production uptime

  • The machine uses industrial-grade optical, motion and powder-handling components selected for continuous operation. Servicing points are accessible from the front of the cabinet, and the auxiliary equipment can be maintained without opening the build chamber, keeping a validated atmosphere intact between jobs.
