XDM 250 - The Proven Mid-Size Workhorse

The XDM 250 is the most widely deployed platform in the XDM range and the natural step up from the XDM 120. It offers a 250 × 250 mm build plate with a choice of 360 mm or 410 mm build height, so users can select the chamber depth that matches their part envelope instead of paying for unused volume. A single 500 W IPG fibre laser delivers a balanced combination of productivity and surface quality across the full field.

The machine is designed as a productive, everyday tool: the gas circuit has been optimised through flow simulation to deliver a uniform stream across the build plate, which keeps spatter away from the melt pool and improves density consistency from the first layer to the last. Auxiliary units such as the chiller and filtration module are separated from the main cabinet, which makes the system easier to integrate into an existing shop floor.

Key Features

Why the XDM 250 performs

Design decisions that matter in daily production: optical quality, gas flow, powder handling, software openness and serviceability.

  • Flow-simulated gas duct optimisation for more stable part quality
  • Separated auxiliary equipment for flexible floor-plan layout
  • Purpose-configured software packages for different applications
  • User-defined scan strategies for maximum experimental freedom
  • Self-developed software with fully open process parameters
  • Intelligent monitoring and data logging for unattended builds
  • Premium core components for high machine reliability

Detailed product description

Applications in daily production

  • Tooling inserts and mould components with conformal cooling channels for plastic injection moulding and die casting.
  • Aluminium and titanium structural brackets for automotive, motorsport and aerospace validation programmes.
  • Cobalt-chrome dental frameworks, partial dentures and orthopaedic trial implants.
  • Stainless and nickel-based flow components such as manifolds, swirlers and burner nozzles.
  • Small-series production of spare parts where a conventional casting or forging route is no longer economical.

Quality stability

  • Layer-wise monitoring records melt-pool and recoating data for every build, so deviations are visible immediately rather than after post-processing. Combined with the homogenous gas flow, this produces repeatable mechanical properties and reduces the scrap rate on thin-walled and tall parts. Build logs are stored and can be exported for customer quality documentation.

Flexibility for different users

  • Because the parameter set is fully open, the same machine can run a validated production recipe for a certified alloy in the morning and an experimental scan strategy in the afternoon. Users can define their own scan paths, hatch strategies and support rules, which is particularly valuable for academic groups and for companies developing proprietary lattice or thermal structures.

Integration and footprint

  • With a footprint of 1670 × 1140 mm and a weight of approximately two tonnes, the XDM 250 fits comfortably into a standard industrial unit. Powder handling takes place through the bottom-feed system, and the external auxiliary module reduces heat load and noise next to the operator station.
